Location: MBI Headquarters, Davis, CA


The Intern supports the scientists working on formulation development from bench to pilot scale. This part-time opportunity includes hands-on work in formulation, instrumentation, analyses, and data processing for research and field trials.

Responsibilities and Duties

Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting processing of liquid formulations using SOP’s and assigned procedures. Supporting processing of solid formulations processed by spray drying, freeze drying and granulation techniques, for research and field trials.
  • Conducting compatibility and performance testing on a variety of physical chemistry and wet lab analysis.
  • Record and analyze test data obtained.

  • Document and maintain legible, accurate, and complete laboratory records.

  • Awarded or pursuing a BS degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, or biochemistry.


  • Preferred, but not required.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

  • Ability to understand a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to accurately use standard laboratory equipment (e.g., balances, pipettes, centrifuges, etc.).
  • Ability to follow an experimental protocol and read scientific literature.
  • General chemistry and formulation knowledge.
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills and the ability to document accurate experimental observations and results.
  • Must be interested in learning to develop different types of analytical and processing methods.

Working conditions

  • Interns are occasionally required to lift up to 50 pounds, are frequently exposed to water, insects, air contamination such as disagreeable odors.
